How To Get Earlier Issues of Challenge-Desafio in PDF format

Challenge-Desafio has been published in PDF format since the issue of September 25, 2002. Prior to that it is available only in HTML format.

We have no Index pages with links to individual PDF issues, as we have for the HTML issues.

Here are some instructions. They sound complicated, but are not.

You may not need to read them at all! Just look at the differences between the URL for the HTML version, and the URL for the PDF version:

HTML version:

http://plp.org/cd05/cd0622.html

PDF version:

http://plp.org/cd05pdf/cd062205.pdf

The differences are in boldface. You can change any URL to its corresponding PDF URL by making these changes.

Detailed Instructions:

To get an issue in PDF of either Challenge or Desafio, use the following method:

1. Find the issue you want in HTML format.

Say you want Challenge for June 22, 2005.

* Go to the HTML pull-down menu, choose "2005". You'll see there's an issue for June 22.

Here's the syntax. It's always the same.

The URL for the HTML is

http://plp.org/cd05/cd0622.html

The corresponding URL for the PDF is the same, except:

* Instead of "/cd05/" type "/cd05pdf/"

* Instead of "/cd0622.html" type "cd062205.pdf."

We have kept the last two numbers of the year as part of the file name for the PDFs, but not for the HTMLs.

2. Change the URL to the PDF format.

Once you have the CD issue on screen, you can just type the extra figures in on the address bar.

Address bar says:

http://plp.org/cd05/cd0622.html

Keep this, but make some changes.

a. Add a "pdf" after the year. "/cd05/" becomes "/cd05pdf/".

b. Add the last two numbers of the year to the name of the issue. "/cd0622" becomes "/cd062205/".

c. Replace "html" with "pdf" in the name of the file.

http://plp.org/cd05pdf/cd062205.pdf

That is the correct URL.

You may now download the PDF issue for June 22, 2005.
